The Bode City Council met in regular session May 2, 2022 at 5:30PM in the council chambers, all members were present. Mayor Peterson called the meeting to order; a motion was made by Tepner second by Miller to approve the agenda as posted. All ayes, motion carried. A motion was made by Tepner, second by Hasjford to approve the minutes from the April 4th council meeting. All ayes, motion carried.
City Maintenance, Todd McMahon reported that he had been in contact with Schoon Tree Service, and they will remove the tree located near 600 2nd Street once the weather conditions allow, the pavement doctor has been contacted and street repairs will be made, Iowa Rural Water has completed the sludge judge at the lagoon, this should help our engineer with the Preliminary Engineering Report as well. Todd will also be starting draw down at our lagoons soon.
A motion was made by Tepner, second by Rongved to approve Norm’s General Store Cigarette/tobacco permit. All ayes, motion carried.
A motion was made by Tepner, second by Miller to approve a building permit for a 72x50ft shed at 602 6th street. All ayes, motion carried. A motion was made by Tepner, second by Fulwider to approve the Application for Tax Abatement on this property as well. All ayes, motion carried.
Residential dumpsters were discussed, if a household should need a dumpster to clean-up an area or during a project. The council has set a two-week limit to this request.
A motion was made by Tepner, second by Fulwider to approve the Group insurance benefits through Principal Life Insurance, this policy is for short-term disability and includes term life and accidental death and dismemberment. This policy will be available for the permanent employees. City Clerk directed to contact Humboldt Mutual as to the application process for this benefit. All ayes, motion carried.
A motion was made by Rongved, second by Tepner to approve the updated personnel policies dated 03/04/22, a few changes have been made including comp time accrued, bereavement leave, jury duty, and drug testing. A complete copy of the policy is available at city hall.
The council
discussed water and garbage rates; while reviewing various scenarios. Following
discussion, A motion was made by Fulwider, second by Tepner to propose a water rate
increase from 50.00/quarter to 55.00/quarter; and garbage rates from
33.00/quarter to 39.00/quarter.
A
motion was made by Fulwider, second by Tepner to set Public Hearing for Water
Rates Increase as June 6th @ 5:45PM, the following rates are being
proposed:
WATER
RATES: Water usage shall be billed quarterly. Water shall be furnished at
the following rates per property services within the city limits:
The first 1,000 gallons 55.00/quarterly
an increase of 5.00 per quarter.
GARBAGE RATES: “Residential Premises” two (2) bags per week to increase 6.00 per quarter at a rate of 39.00/per quarter.
A motion was made by Rongved, second by Miller to set the next meeting as June 6th.
